Nike Dunk Hi AC Tier Zero

The last two Dunk styles we showed you are nearly impossible to obtain (see Gucci, DQM x Nike Dunk Unreleased Sample). In the same manner, the two subtle colorways of the Nike Dunk Hi AC may be difficult to come across as well. With that said, both colorways will release tomorrow, September 26th, 2009 at select retailers such as Undefeated.
Both pairs will feature a 100% canvas base combined with a white sole. One pair will come in an all-grey colorway, while the other pair owns an all-black color scheme. Is this the best Dunk release of 2009?
Nike Vunk

The Nike Dunk and Air Max 95s are two of Nike’s most popular silhouettes ever. And for the little kids with grown-up sneaker games, Nike is combining the two for these Nike Vunks.
The overall shape, forefoot upper and soles are straight from the Dunk half of this mashup. The Ar Max 95 cues are even more obvious, with the main design feature being the classic layered gradient along the side of the uppers. Multiple shades of grey are used along on the upper, accented with neon lime green, a la the Air Max 95. These are only expected to ever be a Grade School release, so the youngins will be the only ones enjoying these, but if you’re foot is small enough or you’ve got a son or daughter to keep fresh, these are available now at Finish Line for just over $60.
Richard Chai x PRO-Keds

For New York Fashion Week, designer Richard Chai worked with PRO-Keds on this collection, working with a mixture of silhouettes and turning out some interesting designs.
Chai’s an American fashion designer, so of course he brought a high-end style to the classic sneaker label. The low-top keeps it simple, using mostly grey tones and a zipper for securing them, even though they do have lace holes. The high-top also uses grey tones and an off-white patterned print. It also works with a zipper, but features interior padding, as well as matching stripes along the side.
These may be a high little high-fashion for some sneakerheads, but be on the lookout in Spring of 2010 for the complete collection to hit stores.

Ping! the iPhones BBM... kinda

This Ping app by the guy who made PushGmail is a mix between text messaging and instant messaging. What you need to know is that it's free and it's fast.
Ping is designed to look like the SMS app, and behaves much the same way. The messages you send arrive at the recipient's screen instantly—similar to IMs—but also pop up with a Push Notification if you're not actively using the phone.
It's basically free SMS for you to everyone who has an iPhone or iPod Touch (over Wi-Fi) as long as you can convince them to sign up for Ping. Even if you can't, the ones you do switch over might be enough for you to downgrade your SMS plan one notch to save some money.
In the end, this may either be a really useful SMS alternative for iPhones, or a service that's not different enough from SMS or IM that people will use it. It's too early to say.

Courier: First Details of Microsoft's Secret Tablet
It feels like the whole world is holding its breath for the Apple tablet. But maybe we've all been dreaming about the wrong device. This is Courier, Microsoft's astonishing take on the tablet.

Courier is a real device, and we've heard that it's in the "late prototype" stage of development. It's not a tablet, it's a booklet. The dual 7-inch (or so) screens are multitouch, and designed for writing, flicking and drawing with a stylus, in addition to fingers. They're connected by a hinge that holds a single iPhone-esque home button. Statuses, like wireless signal and battery life, are displayed along the rim of one of the screens. On the back cover is a camera, and it might charge through an inductive pad, like the Palm Touchstone charging dock for Pre. Until recently, it was a skunkworks project deep inside Microsoft, only known to the few engineers and executives working on it—Microsoft's brightest, like Entertainment & Devices tech chief and user-experience wizard J. Allard, who's spearheading the project. Currently, Courier appears to be at a stage where Microsoft is developing the user experience and showing design concepts to outside agencies. Microsoft has a history of collaborating with other firms, especially in the E&D division: Zune and Xbox have both gone through similar design processes. (And plans for the Microsoft Store leaked through a third-party agency were confirmed as genuine prototype layouts and concepts.) This video is branded Pioneer Studios, a Microsoft division within E&D that specializes in this kind of work, working with another agency that's a long-time Microsoft collaborator on confidential projects. The Courier user experience presented here is almost the exact opposite of what everyone expects the Apple tablet to be, a kung fu eagle claw to Apple's tiger style. It's complex: Two screens, a mashup of a pen-dominated interface with several types of multitouch finger gestures, and multiple graphically complex themes, modes and applications. (Our favorite UI bit? The hinge doubles as a "pocket" to hold items you want move from one page to another.) Microsoft's tablet heritage is digital ink-oriented, and this interface, while unlike anything we've seen before, clearly draws from that, its work with the Surface touch computer and even the Zune HD.
The Pink Phone Pictures Microsoft Doesn't Want You To See Yet

Project Pink is Microsoft's new phone for regular people. Rumors about the software go back months, but the hardware, and who's making it for Microsoft, has been a mystery. Here are the first pictures of Pink phones, Turtle and Pure. These phones are going to be made by Sharp, who'll get to share branding with Microsoft. Sharp produced the Sidekick hardware for Danger, who was bought by Microsoft two years ago. (Which is honestly the only reason we can think of why Microsoft stuck with Sharp for the new phones, versus someone like HTC.) Pink will be primarily aimed at the same market as the Sidekick, and branding and identity for it is highly developed, pointing toward a later stage in the development cycle. The hardware design has a younger feeling too: Turtle looks like a chunky child's version of a Palm Pre, while Pure seems like a standard slider, and both are clearly plastic. They have an overall sense of roundedness, with lots of soft angles and circular keys. It's been reported elsewhere that Pink phones will include Zune services, and have its own app store, making it as close to the Zune phone as we may get. We'll see if it's close enough in the coming months, though these are the only facts our source will let us safely publish for now.
iPhone Gets MMS Friday... finally

We've just heard from AT&T that new carrier settings for the iPhone 3G and 3GS will be available "late morning" Pacific Time (which would be early afternoon Eastern) this Friday, September 25, which will finally enable MMS support. Owners will have to tether up to iTunes to grab those settings, so fish out your cable (as if you don't have it permanently attached to your machine already) and make sure you've got some solid time in front of the computer to check for the update over and over (and over) again, alright?

I am T-Pain iPhone App Is Auto-Tuning Genius

Smule, the guys who made Leaf Trombone and Ocarina, just ported Auto-Tune—the software T-Pain and Auto-Tune the news uses to make music gold—onto the iPhone. Holy crap is it awesome. But the fact that you can make your own track, then share it with your friends (or Facebook or Myspace) with just a few clicks is amazing, especially so since it's authentic Antares Auto-Tune technology. As a bonus, you can see the Auto-Tune the News guys with T-Pain allude to the existence of the app in their latest installment:
The Price is $3, and I definitely got $3 worth of fun out of it.
